** Sporadic E season 2012 **
The Sporadic E season 2012 has started. On May 8th at 13.08 UTC the first
ES QSO of 2012 was reported between YO3FOU (KN34) and IW1BCV (JN44).
The opening was short and hardly noticed as most will have been at work.
A bit later at 13:23 UTC another short opening starting with a QSO
between F5XU (JN15) and LZ3GM (KN32).
For the statistics; first openings reported in:
2008 May 11
2009 May 17
2010 May 11
2011 May 15
So 2012 looks like an early starter... let's see what is going to happen!
Good Hunting!

Moonbounce from Uganda, 5X1EME, KJ60GH
Soon we will travel to Uganda.
From May 25th till June 3rd 2012, PA3CEE and PE1L will be active as 5X1EME. The locator is
KJ60GH.
We have the same equipment as when we where operating as C56EME.
At 144 we have 2 x 8 element cross yagi and wa2odo preamp.
At 432 we have a small station with a 23 el yagi
If we can manage internet we will be on N0UK logger and HB9Q logger for last minute freq
change etc.
We want to give a big thanks to our sponsors, without this support its not possible to do this
trip.

After some very successfull DXpeditions to the Gambia past year
(C56EME with 361 inits on 144 MHz, a worldrecord, and 11 inits om 432 MHz),
Bonaire (PJ4X) and Curacao (PJ2/PE1L), Rene, PE1L will now try again to make
Moonbounce QSO's from Uganda on 144 MHz and 432 MHz. Uganda the pearl of Africa.
This time Eltje PA3CEE will join the party again. He was also joining in
Kenya (5Z4EME 2009), Mauritius (3B8EME 2010) and the Gambia (C56EME 2011).
Don't change a winning team!
We will be QRV moonbounce 2 meter as 5X1EME, a special moonbounce permit is requested.
If all ok we will have a small 70cm setup with us.
From May 25th (Eltjes birthday!) 5X1EME will be active
from Uganda on 144 MHz moonbounce. The locator will be KJ60gh, near Kampala on the
equator.
The plan is to leave May 21st and build up the station before the weekend. It's just
the two of us but we know what we are doing. It's a hard job to get the license there.
Callsign is still a bit insecure but we have good faith in obtaining 5X1EME.
We want to be active at least during two whole weekends when there is
good activity in combination with good moon conditions.
Last operation presumably June 3rd.
Internet possibility is unsure but we try to send at least once a day a update via
MoonNet,
MMMonVHF and our mailinglist.
If internet will be low, we will try (one way) communication through
Frequency:
We always TX and RX 144.134 MHz
We use 1 minute periods and we will TX always first.
Setup:
2 x 8 Xpol yagi
400 watt amplifier and a low NF preamp (WA2ODO)
This is our fourth DXpedition to Africa. Africa came into our blood.
We have to come back as often as possible. We can't resist....

ME-DXpedition 2012 de DL1YMK
The M&M-team is preparing the next EME-DXpedition, taking place in
May 2012. We will set out for our destination just after having
returned from the Swedish EME Meeting, organised by Lars, SM4IVE,
on the weekend 12./13th of May in Oerebro. We hope to reach our
destination in time and to get QRV on Thursday, 17th of May
(bank holiday in Europe) on 23 cm, followed by 70 cm on 18.05.
On Saturday, 19.05., we will be on 13 cm and on Sunday again on
23 cm. 13 cm will be run with a significant increase in power and
full 2424 MHz coverage. For the first time during an EME- DXpedition,
we intend to get also operational on 6 cm with our old, but proven
stressed dish and a new superb feed made by our friend Tommy,
WD5AGO. 6 cm will have an experimental character despite some 100 W
out, as we could not test so far, if the under-illuminated dish will
work up that high in frequency, so keep your fingers crossed!! Our
plan is to give it a try on Monday, 21th May. Also, we intend to
get active on 3 cm with a separate solid dish, which of course is
a lot smaller. Last weekend we made the first test with LX1DB, having
installed the dish in our garden place. The tests were not yet
satisfying, so our friend Willi right now is trying to help us out
with some substantial development aid!
During the DUBUS contest 26./27th of May, we will of course be
active on 23 cm in order to boost activity in the moonbounce contest
of contests. Our last day of operation will be Thursday, 31st of May.
A detailed schedule for the days from 21th May onwards predominantly
will depend on the progress with 10GHz in the meantime. Further details
to be published soon!! This years DXpedition will be the 9th
EME-DXpedition in a sequence for us. We hope to have fun all together
as experienced during past years DXpeditions.but this largely depends
on you.
Needless to say that it will be again a CW random event, although
doodle mode technically is possible (with a new laptop computer)
on request. We have no idea yet to what extent (if at all) i-net
access is feasable, though.
